TATTOUR Hong Kong 2025 香港紋身展

Neighbour Co. was commissioned to design the event identity for TATTOUR HK 2025 (香港紋身展), an international tattoo convention held at PMQ last month, featuring 55 artists from 15 countries.
Event Objective
To foster cultural exchange by grounding an international tattoo convention within Hong Kong’s unique local heritage (國際紋化 貼地交流).
Design Concept
Guided by the concept of “55 tattoo artists, 55 localised identities”, we translated every artist’s name into Cantonese and crafted a custom Chinese typeface for every one. Each character was stylised to reflect that artist’s unique aesthetic. This typographic bridge sparked curiosity within the local community and created a meaningful dialogue between visiting artists and the Hong Kong public.
The Graphic System
To complement the typography, we built a secondary graphic system using a collage of textures found in the tattooing process. By layering elements like ink bleeds, translucent tracing paper, and raw line sketches, the identity captured the visceral, tactile nature of the craft. This provided a gritty yet cohesive visual language that unified the artists’ diverse styles.
The Execution
The identity was applied consistently across multiple touchpoints, including event installations, souvenirs, advertising and social media. By blending hyper-local typography with the physical textures of tattooing, Neighbour Co. transformed PMQ into an immersive space that celebrated both the individual artist and the cultural landscape of Hong Kong.
